Don't judge this book by its cover. SPICE is not a bland reference of spices from A-Z. This book will catapult you from the mundane to the intersection of Eastern Mediterranean tradition & American eclectic invention.

Yes, Part One is devoted to Spices. Part Two is dedicated to Herbs & Other Key Mediterranean Flavors. But restaurateur, author & Celebrity Chef Ana Sortun does not alphabetize; she arranges complimentary spices like savory sisters. And the resulting family portrait is a feast for both the eyes & palate.

This unique book offers what cooks at any skill level crave: straightforward culinary procedures, stunning food styling, ingredient explanation & flexibility, intriguing wine pairings with each dish & stories behind the recipes.

Spices are personified & woven into the stories of Ana's incredible pilgrimages abroad. Her captivating culinary carpet ride was set in motion at age 24, when she began the process of "working out my own style & identity in the kitchen". Each recipe from her personal repertoire is both a fond memory & a culinary treasure.

Her found style has left an indelible mark on the culinary globe with her restaurant Oleana located on Hampshire Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
